Days On the Ranch
Monday and Tuesday Recap.
Our morning started bright and early trudging down the mountain at 5:15 am- for a 45 minute descent to the milking parlor of Mission Lazarus. We were greeted with the faces of anxious cows ready to be milked. After helping Samuel and Lazaro milk about 27 dairy cows we roped the cows in the corral, so Samuel could spray them with a disinfectant chemical spray. The current high roping score is Chelsea 14 and Logan a big ole’ fat goose egg… pitiful. Then we bottle fed baby calves with the fresh mommy milk and then got to lasso them. We aren’t completely sure why, but Samuel handed Chelsea the lasso and gave Logan the medicine syringe to insert into the calf’s mouth, ha. After a siesta in la hamaca (hammock) we both made great friends with Pala, aka our shovel. We shoveled 6 inches deep and 3 oceans wide of cow excrement. At one point Chelsea almost ate poop for lunch because Logan swung his shovel an inch from her face. Luckily her appetite was not ruined for lunch. Needless to say, we had a blast shoveling poop, pee, and whatever was causing that nice lime green color.
