Getting our feet wet: More from week one
Now that we’re all getting more settled in at Mission Lazarus, we interns are spending time getting accustomed to the communities in Choluteca. Over the past few days, we’ve visited a handful of the 24 churches that Mission Lazarus supports around the region. In every case, the people I’ve met have been welcoming and helpful, quick to answer questions and (slowly) repeat Spanish phrases that I...
Love.
God stresses the importance of love numerous times in His Word.
Love covers over a multitude of sins
The greatest commandment is love
Whoever doesn’t love, doesn’t know God
Perfect love drives out fear
We even get a description of love in 1 Corinthians 13 that gives us words to equate with the action of love: patient, kind, not proud, not self-seeking, etc. Even after all these...
First Impressions
Hey guys,
My name is Victoria Tyson and I was born and raised in Abilene, Texas. I am a Family Studies major from Abilene Christian University and I am sooooo excited to be here! There have been so many new experiences and memories made so far. We have met quite a few wonderful people. Wait, who am I kidding? They are all wonderful. I want to mention two of the people that really stand out to me...
Santa Anita y Limón
Wednesday
Hello Everybody,
Today was an amazing day! The interns piled into the old twelve person Land Cruiser with our driver Justo. As we descended down the mountain, the breath taking landscape of Honduras was there to greet us as it so faithfully does each morning. My spirits were exceptionally high today; we were heading to my two favorite places in Honduras, Limón and Santa Anita. On...
Day 1
Hi I’m Jared Commander and this was my experience on our first Sunday as interns
Today was our first day together as interns, and it was quite an amazing day.
We went to church in Limón; it was a great service even though I only caught bits and pieces of the sermon that Ishmael, the pastor at the church, presented to us. Ishmael or Mael, as most people call him, is a very special man whom I...
Bienvenidos!
Hello! Since this is my first post, I’ll take a moment to introduce myself.
I’m Ali McIlroy from Tulsa, OK! I’m a nursing major headed into my senior year of college at Oklahoma Christian University.
The interns have only been here a handful of days but the Lord is already moving and finding ways to reveal himself. It is very humbling to come to a country that has such great need. Instead of...
Seeing Joy
Being in Honduras for 3 days now has been very cool. It is such a beautiful country and people. From doing a scavenger hunt, in Spanish, in the streets of San Marcos to wading through water to the island village of Boca, there has been no lack of excitement and gratefulness for being here. It has become extremely apparent that Mission Lazarus has made a dramatic impact on the...
End of Day One
by Reid Harris
My past two days have been a blur. After arriving in Tegucigalpa, Honduras just before noon on Saturday, I quickly met most of the other Mission Lazarus summer interns at the airport. I had my last taste of McDonald’s before making the last leg of my trip, a bus ride to the Mission Lazarus ranch. The ride itself was an experience; we winded through the roads of Honduras while...

Two weeks ago I was blessed with the opportunity to translate for cute, spunky, red headed nurse practitioner named Dani. This medical brigade was put on by Crosspoint Community from Nashville, TN. They saw 901 medical patients and 831 eye patients in 4 days. Duyure (the town) that consists of about 1200 people, so this is a HUGE blessing for this community.
All of the patients that...
sacrifice.
I’ve heard it said that stories in the Bible can touch you in different ways depending on where you are in life’s journey. Last night, as I read through 1 Chronicles, I was struck by a passage that I had never before taken the time to really stop and think about. In the story, David has sinned before God. An angel of the Lord orders Gad to tell David to go and build an altar to God on...
The Power of Choice
I was recently reading a book that discussed poverty in ways new to me. He described poverty as the lack of being able to choose things. Whether that is an education, career, medicine and health, and even things like transportation and where we decide to live. People in poverty lack the ability to choose between things. Usually in their case, there is no decision that has to be made, the...
Clinic Time!
Last week I was working in the clinic at Cedeno. This city is located on the coast and is one of the poorest cities Mission Lazarus works with. I was doing my usual clinic job of taking and recording the weights of the patients as they came in before their consults. Each person is always warm and friendly and happy to finally be able to get to the clinic. One patient in particular really stood out...

Last week a group from the Conroe Church of Christ came down to Mission Lazarus for a week to construct a wall around the church building and the food program. Thanks goes out to them for their work and support of this ministry! - Michael Conatser
Pony Games 2011 featuring the children from the Refuge, some of the full-time missionaries, and the summer interns. Needless to say, we had a blast. This was a great time for the children to spotlight their talents and skills they have developed on horseback into some challenging, yet fun, relays. Special thanks to Katie Lippert for her work putting this all together! - Michael Conatser

Baptism in Namasigue
I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve as a translator for the Conroe group which is working at the “comedor”, or food ministry, in Namasigue. The group is running a VBS with the kids there and also working on constructing a wall around the entire compound, which includes the kitchens, church, preacher’s house, and courtyard. Small groups have also been going out...
Days On the Ranch
Monday and Tuesday Recap.
Our morning started bright and early trudging down the mountain at 5:15 am- for a 45 minute descent to the milking parlor of Mission Lazarus. We were greeted with the faces of anxious cows ready to be milked. After helping Samuel and Lazaro milk about 27 dairy cows we roped the cows in the corral, so Samuel could spray them with a disinfectant chemical spray. The...
Matthew 18:3-5
“I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.”
This week, a group from Conroe, Texas, is using the talents God blessed its members with in order...
